There are so many cool Apps I've gotten distracted playing with them all. Posting them as a basic iTunes links seems unworthy for many of the Apps are Free and their publishers deserve a pat on the back or well at least a few comments about the App. Therefore since I have the summer off (yeah right), I'll try to post a new App daily in hopes I'll compile a useful resource for students, parents, educators, and well anyone else who is interested. Do you have an App you just love and want posted? Post a comment or an email I'll add it.

Navigation Apps

The App description in iTunes doesn't do this App justice as its pretty vague. This is an excellent App for Orientation and Mobility Specialists. This App allows you to make annotations to a map or a pic (located in your photo gallery) using graphics such as foot prints, x, arrows, hearts, and my favorite a photo you've created using the Camera Roll. Take picture of stop sign, no pedestrian crossing signs, traffic lights, bus shelters, etc... and stamp them on your map. You can set the background using a your current location if you have WiFi or 3G as it utilizes Google Maps or add your saved map using your camera roll. This app works great for creating or reviewing a route with Visually Impaired Students. Cut down your material prep time searching for addresses on Google Maps, printing and enlarging maps, and locating large print or tactile markers. The App is compatible with Zoom as well as VoiceOver navigation however the stamps could use better labeling as there labeled stamp 1, stamp 2, etc... I'd love to see a text annotation feature, a voice recording stamp, and perhaps a note field for the user to input notes. Thank you Simone Muggeo...you've just made my life easier great App.

PDF File Viewers with Annotation

iAnnotate
This is another great program that will modify pdf files. Like GoodReader you can open and annotate pdf files. The programs connects to iDisk, Dropbox, google, and Aji Pdf servers to upload and download. Pdf files with annotations can be sent in original, annotated, or flattened formats. I like it because you have option to send just the annotated pages. The program allows for multiple views up to 6 tabs with more tool options, stamps, and editing, stamps with personal stamp creation abilities. Doesn't allow for pinch magnification. Compatible with Zoom not VoiceOver.
I really like the editing features, ability to rename files, and send the original, annotated pdf, only annotated pdf files, as well as the pdf file with an annotated summary page. I don't like the file management because it lacks options for folder creation and in my opinion appears visually cluttered and disorganized. The file sync options require action from the user and are not automatic.

GoodReader
This is my favorite App for PDF annotations. Personally I like the way the program looks and is well organized with folders you can create. While using a PDF file you are able to be enlarged the size to write or annotate a specific area and add handwritten annotations. It has several tools for annotations but there not as diverse as iAnnotate. You can not flatten the annotations and email them with the new upgrade but the email abilities are buggy as it does not always send the annotations on the file. I wish you could delete individual pages of the pdf file or just email pages that have annotations. However the file management options are far superior to iAnnotate. This is my primary App for pdf annotations, filing, and sync options. The syncing features are also excellent and do not require you to manually sync. It also has the ability to view pics, word doc, excel sheets, has a text file editor, and it own browser with will allow you to download a web page as an pdf.
Compatible with Zoom not VoiceOver.

File Conversion Software

DAISYtoEPUB software converts files in the accessible DAISY format into a form that can be read on popular mainstream e-readers such as the iPad, Nook, standard computers, etc.

Little Finder is an excellent app for teaching picture identification and word association in a fun way. This app reminds me of playing memory but cheating and seeing all the cards. App Accessibility for Low Vision/Blind: unfortunately this app is not VoiceOver compatible (sigh), but it does work with Zoom. Its a little touchy with Zoom so make sure you really drag 3 fingers to scroll. Pan using one finger up/down, right/left but make sure to align with the cards columns otherwise you'll end up selecting an unwanted card. Other ideas: You can reduce visual clutter by changing the field view, select audio hint, teach directionality by allowing rotation, and finally adapt for the extra time it takes to use a screen magnifier by changing the time to Zen mode. Nice job!
